About This Station

The station is powered by a Davis Vantage Vue weather station. The data is collected every 10 seconds and the site is updated every 5 minutes. This site and its data is collected using CumulusMX Software and is uploaded using a HP ProDesk 600 PC running Windows 10 O/S. The station is comprised of an anemometer, a rain gauge and a thermo-hydro sensor situated in optimal positions for highest accuracy possible. Collected data is uploaded to Weather Underground (Station ID: KVAROANO47) and NOAA/CWOP (Station ID: EW4061).

About Roanoke

Roanoke (formerly Big Lick) is an independent city in the southern U.S. state of Virginia and is the tenth-largest city in the Commonwealth. It is located in the Roanoke Valley of the Roanoke Region of Virginia.[6] The population within the city limits was 98,641 as of 2012.[7] It is the largest municipality in Southwest Virginia, and is the principal municipality of the Roanoke Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). Mark Wittl is a retired Software Engineer and current Art Conservator who lives in Roanoke, VA and Belhaven, NC. He worked for Norfolk Southern Railway for 30 years before retiring and has done Oil Painting Conservation/Restoration work for over 30 years operating Virginia Art Conservation and Restoration, LLC. He is an avid boater, helicopter enthusiast, programmer, PADI Divemaster and overall adventurist who also enjoys metalwork and operates Virginia Metal Art.
